|Review by Susan Perry, Aikido Today Magazine
The Elements of Aikido, by Sensei Greg O'Connor, covers deeper, often neglected topics - such as Aikido's ethics, its reliance on grounding and intuition, as well as Aikido's emphasis on warrior values including courage, compassion, and leadership. The longest chapter, titled The Practice of Aikido includes sections on important topics for new students: blending, ukemi, basic stances, Aikido weapons, multiple attacks, and basic technique.
O'Connor, who has founded many new dojos, has no doubt refined this material as he presented it to one group of beginners after another. With the publication of this very good primer, Aikido students everywhere can be the beneficiaries of that work.
